The GRACE and End Child Poverty California team is hiring a Senior Policy Associate to support our advocacy and education efforts in Sacramento and across California.

We’re looking for a combination of the following:

  • Passionate about our children, families, and communities and committed to working thoughtfully and with an intersectional lens on social justice issues
  • Comfortable working within a small team as well as with consultants, government officials and agencies, and coalition partners; the latter a diverse mix of advocates and nonprofits, direct service providers, community and grassroots organizations, among others
  • A balanced outlook on the demands of work and life, understanding people come first and willing and able to promote a fun, respectful, and healthy work environment
  • Curious, reflective, and committed to learning–a proponent of the phrase “I don’t know”
  • Dedicated to centering and uplifting the voices, stories, and expertise of people with lived experiences of poverty

  • Resume or CV: Preferred length is no longer than 5 pages, depending on experience. Please include as an attachment.
  • Writing sample(s): We ask that candidates share samples of their writing with us, but are open to format, audience, and length. Most samples submitted are between 1-10 pages total; please do not exceed 10 pages. Examples of past submissions include: research reports, portions of theses or dissertations, policy briefs, presentations, blog posts, and emails. The only requirement is that the samples must be primarily written and edited by the candidate. Writing samples can be attached and/or online sample links can be included in the body of the email.
  • Required Supplemental Questions: Please include answers to the following questions in the body of the email.
    • Y/N: Do you currently live in California?
      • Y/N: If you answered No to Question 1, do you have plans to move to California by the end of 2024?
    • This position requires experience running bills and/or budget campaigns. Please list 2-3 bills/campaigns you have been involved in at the state (preferred) or federal levels.
    • This position requires experience working with statewide coalitions. Please list 2-3 coalitions you’ve been involved with in professional or volunteer capacities.
