In response to the Eaton Fire’s disproportionate impact on the Black community in Altadena, local community organizations such as Community Aid Dena, Altadena Heritage, and WalkGood LA, alongside the NAACP, BET Media Group, and national industry leaders are stepping in. They have launched the Altadena Community Preservation Fund. The fund will support recovery efforts, protect homeowners from displacement, and preserve Altadena’s cultural heritage. 

The Altadena Community Preservation Fund has both an immediate and long-term approach to the recovery ahead. Direct financial assistance will be provided for immediate needs such as temporary housing, administrative costs, legal fees, and independent adjusters. The long-term goal is to keep Altadena’s homeownership and community strong and protected for future generations.

The NAACP is hosting town hall meetings and creating community spaces to connect with aid officials. The goal is to empower fund recipients with bridge grants. The grants will provide the kind of direct assistance needed by homeowners and small-business owners to walk the path of recovery on their own terms.

The fund will focus on assisting those who live in Altadena according to census tracts, specifically homeowners who are uninsured or underinsured, including those on the California FAIR Plan, homeowners with limited net wealth as determined by LA County means-testing parameters, multi-generational households with higher financial strains due to shared housing and caregiving responsibilities, and senior (65+) Altadena homeowners who are not in the workforce.

The Altadena Community Preservation Fund will be administered in partnership with FORWARD — a people-first platform dedicated to reducing barriers and ensuring aid reaches recipients swiftly and securely. Allocation will be based on available funds.
